The stepped-frequency radar is a kind of high range resolution radar and it is significant to precision guided weapons. This thesis mainly discusses several aspects of a stepped-frequency millimeter wave seeker prototype system and its main works are as follows.Firstly, we present the the principles of the stepped-frequency radar system and analyze the stepped-frequency waveform in detail. The ambiguity function are calculated analyzed. The characteristic parameters and waveform parameter design are discussed.Secondly, the signal processing techniques of stepped frequency radar based on Inverse Fast-Fourier-Transform(IFFT) algorithm is investigated. Other signal processing methods such as Chirp-z are summarized. The influence of target motion on frequency-stepped radar and motion compensation methods are discussed. The redundancy of target's one dimensional range profile is analyzed. The method of spelling range profile of target is introduced. The method to get angle information from the conical-scanning stepped-frequency signal is investigated. One stepped-frequency millimeter wave seeker prototype system is designed and implemented. In this system, the general digital signal processor, i.e. TMS320VC33, and the field-programmable-gate-array (FPGA) are used as hardcore and thus this system is a general and flexible system.
