As a kind of high range resolution radar, stepped-frequency radar is playing a more and more important role in modern war because it has the advantage of high measuring accuracy, good anti-clutter-ability, identifiability of true and false targets. The ESL is defined as Electronic System Level design, from its genesis as an algorithm modeling methodology, it is evolving into a kind of system design methodology which focuses on system design, verification and debugging. The thesis presents an ESL design methodology for the research about the signal processing system of the stepped-frequency radar seeker, and some key parts of the signal processing system of the stepped-frequency radar seeker are designed based on Xilinx's ESL tool AccelDSP. It proves that it is easier to improve design efficiency by using ESL tools. The related basic concept, the design flow, the advantage of ESL design and the using method of AccelDSP are summarized. Then the performance and theory of stepped-frequency radar signal is discussed, besides the signal processing system of the stepped-frequency radar seeker is disscussed in detail in the thesis. Firstly, the research about one dimensional range profile based on IFFT algorithm and the related principle of the one dimensional range profile are analysed. Secondly, to solve the motion compensation caused by the effect on the one dimensional range profile by the motion between the target and the radar, two algorithms which include the time domain cross correlation method and the method of combined fast approximate estimation and accurate search estimation are studied and then are simulated separately by MATLAB. Thirdly, the principle of the conical scanning and the method based on Z-transformation to get angle information from the conical-scanning stepped-frequency signal are investigated. In the basis of the research about the signal processing system of the stepped-frequency radar seeker, the module of forming one dimensional range profile by IFFT is designed by using AccelDSP, and then is tested and verified at last. It proves that the result of the design is correct and effectual.
