High range resolution is reached by pulse synthesis of stepped-frequency signal. Itcan decrease the sample rate of system. The system complexity is low and it is easy toimplement. This system will become an important development trend in the high rangeresolution radar and target identification system in the future.Firstly, we present the principle of the stepped-frequency radar system. The definitionof stepped-frequency signal and it's ambiguity function are discussed in the paper. Thecharacteristic parameters and waveform parameter design are discussed.Secondly, the signal processing techniques of stepped-frequency radar seeker arediscussed in detail in the paper. The key problem including the range imaging based onIFFT, motion compensation for the influence of target motion, anti-jamming of clutter, theredundancy of target's one dimensional range profile, and the algorithms of targetextraction, the method of getting angle information from the conical-scanningstepped-frequency signal. At the same time, the results of computer simulation and fieldexperiment are given to prove the validity of these algorithms. Finally, a signal processing system is researched. this system is based on theTMS320VC33 DSP and the field-programmable-gate-array (FPGA). By programming, debugging and field experiment, the system's credibility, real-time and validity ofalgorithms are proved.
