As a high-range-resolution radar system, stepped frequency radar has great potential applications in accurate control and guide weapons which has the advantage of high range measuring accuracy, anti-clutter-ability, identifiability of true and false targets. In this thesis the signal processing of stepped frequency system which applied in the millimeter wave seeker is discussed particularly. The basic theory of the stepped frequency radar system is summarized firstly, and the features of stepped frequency radar are analyzed in detail. According to the definition of radar waveform's ambiguity function, the characteristics of stepped frequency radar waveform are analyzed in detail to build a foundation for theoretical and experimental studies. Two signal processing methods of high range resolution based on Inverse Discrete Fourier Transform and Chirp-z Transform are analyzed, other signal processing methods are summarized and prospected. In the following, the effect on the high resolution range profile caused by the radial motion between the target and the radar is discussed. The frequency compensation principle is analyzed according to the research of the relation of the different pulse's phase and several different frequency compensation methods based on velocity estimation are introduced and proved by computer simulation. To get angle information of every scatters effectively one by one based on the high rage resolution, the interaction of conical scan and stepped frequency is analyzed in detail. After that two effective angle information processing methods are introduced and proved by computer simulation.
