Stepped frequency radar (SFR), which has advantages of high range measuring accuracy, anti-clutter ability, and identifiably of true and false targets, is a hot spot in research area of wideband high-range-resolution radar. Therefore it has a great potential for applications in military and civilian areas. This thesis first makes researches of the SFR system and signal processing,mainly the detection of range distribute targets and target extraction, and then combining with other features of SFR signal processing, uses the LabVIEW software platform to simulate the system, realizes the functions of echo simulation, HRR imagining, moving target detection, range and velocity estimation and velocity compensation.This thesis first introduce several types of wide band radar, especially the SFR, its actuality of research and application are analyzed, and then the problems of the extend target detection and the target extraction are discussed in the second and third part. In the second part, based on the general target detection and the analysis of the SFR's range profile's characteristic, a method of Hough transform detection is inducted in SFR detection, the detection performance is analyzed, and this method offers many advantages when compared with more traditional methods in theoretic and simulation results. In the third part of the thesis, target extraction in SFR is discussed, several usual methods of target extraction are summarized, and a technique of frequency domain phase compensation is put forward. The technique can make up the deficiency of the usual methods and align the echoes envelopes of different HRR cells.Based on the theoretic analysis above,SFR signal processing system simulation is done by LabVIEW platform. System simulation is very important in radar signal processing. It can not only guarantee the high reliability of system design but also use computer simulation's characteristics of controllable, repeatable, safety, economical and non-destructive to validate and evaluate the radar system. In this paper, SFR signal processing system is simulated based on LabVIEW, the simulation results are agreed with the theoretic results. It indicates the correctness and feasibility of the design, and provides the foundation for overall design of the system.
