The computer networks, especially the rapid development of Internet brings lots of values for society today and it almost has covered all kinds of fields. But the main protocol of Internet, IPv4 (Internet Protocol Version 4) has not satisfied.the need of the development in future because it has been limited by itself. So the new network protocol-IPv6 is coming into stage soon and going to replace the IPv4. IPv6 would solve many problems that exist in IPv4, such as address shortage, expanding routing table, weak security etc.Campus network is important network for action teaching and science research in academy and it is confronted with the same question so it needs to be updated and rebuilt. Whereas, it will spend much time for the entire transition from IPv4 to IPv6 so IPv4 and IPv6 would coexistence for a period of time. IETF considers that " transition is long, coexistence is certain" , the next research focus on the proposed scheme of setting up IPv4/IPv6 compositive network in different network's application environment. This is the problem we are going to discuss, namely, how we set up IPv4/IPv6 compositive campus network.In the thesis, we compare IPv4 with IPv6, introduce the fundament and new characteristics of IPv6, analyze some varieties of familiar transition technique: tunnel technique, Dual stack and Network Address Translation Protocol Translation. Under the actual network state of Nanjing University of Science & Technology, we propose IPv4/IPv6 compositive network scheme based on Linux operation system. At last according to the results of tunnel and NAT-PT experiment we can certify the technical feasibility of the compositive network scheme.
