Snmp-based Campus Network Management System And Implementation

With the wide spread of internet application and the development of the network techonolgy, application mode for the information techonolgy has changed greatly. New techonolgys bring us more access ways to the internet which causes network expanding rapidly. As a result, network management has been geting more and more important. How to supervise and config various net resoures effectively has become a significant task for the campus network administrator.At present, in the daily maintenance and management, it is real difficult for us to supervise and manage the campus network since we have to face various and complex net devices and different equipmentmanufacturers in the same time. In addition, with the bad situation---IPembezzlement, IP confilct, serious network monitor, virus spread and fierce attack towards network, it is ineviatbly neccessary to design a certain management system which is easy to operate and apply to solve these serious problems above. By researching present network architecture, author aims to slove these problems effectively , such as IP and MAC banding, tracing abnormal stream in time, flooding of worm virus.By intergrating bottom protocols such as ICMP, ARP, SNMP, author devise a system archetype with basic management functions which performs monitoring real time troubles to shorten troubleshooting time. According to the present client/server mode, author choose brower/server to design network management system which can aviod traditional management method requiring stable place and equipments and enable administrator supervise the campus network in any place where can access to the network.In the beginning of this, author describe the problems and challenges we face, introduce management frames for OSI system and function field,analyse fully the standard protocol---SNMP, compare various managemnettechonolgy , then choose SNMP as the basic portocol for campus network managment platform which is suitable for such network and finally implement the management system on it. A large part of this article elaborates theresult for researching SNMP theory from different aspects such as the development of SNMP,SNMP conf iguration>MIB>SMKPDU and discuss advantages and disadvantages of different SNMP versions and anaylse the high-security SNMPV3's architecture. In the last, author fulfil SNMP protocol with FREEBSD 4. 10 operating system and PERL language version 5. 6. 1. On the basis of SNMP, author comprehends the real circumstance for the particular campus network, and adopts the mature WDB technology and free PERL interfacetechnology to implement the prototype KMUSTNM---a campus networkmanagement system .which has been running on line. The management system is provided with main functions such as device management IP searching, device' s interfaces control, etc.
