Research On IP Network Management System Based On SNMP

As one of the three dominate software platforms, network management system plays an important part paralleled with operation system and database system in network domain. When the network of small and medium sized enterprise continues to expand, it is bound to bring tremendous demand of network management system. There is still many works and efforts should to be done when compared with foreign giants although we have been made some progresses in network management system recently. The ones of proprietary intellectual property rights still have a long way to go, which potentially lead to great market prospect in long term.Network topology discovery is the fundamental component of the entire network management system and all functions of the system are built based on it. In other words, more effective and adaptive algorithm must be designed in order to obtain more accurate topology discovery results and the network topology will further promote the development of network management technology and network applications. How to conduct the precise and efficient network topology discovery is becoming an hot issues of network management research.The outlines of this paper are listed as below:(1) Introduction to most popular network management system. In this section, we both have detailed comparing and analysis on the excellent features and short comings.(2) This paper proposes an efficient VLAN discoverable algorithm for IP network based on SNMP. In this part, we discussed the architecture of the topology discovery system and the program implementation. Besides, the discovery algorithm we designed is not merely able to work on both network layer and physical layer of Ethernet, but also supports 802.1Q VLAN standard.(3) Computational experiments on the simulated network in Advent-Net environment. The experimental results show that this algorithm is effective, accurate and complete, operable good.(4) Design and implement a network management system used for mobile mail. The detailed statements on the architecture, MIB design, communication strategies, management strategies and database design are also included in this paper. We have tested the system and verified the results, it can run stable, and has a little influence on traffic, so this system is of great application value.
