Ground-Penetrating Radar(GPR) is a kind of non-destruction hi-tech detecting equipment working in a new-developed detecting way. Research on GPR is focused on anti-interference ability, data acquisition precision and speed, depth and resolution of detection and data saving ability. As an important part of GPR, data acquisition system plays a key role to improve GPR performance. In this paper, based on PCI Bus technology, a high-speed data acquisition system is designed for the item Applied Ground-Penetrating Radar. The system has characteristics of high processing speed, compact structure and high data throughput. Through outdoor detecting experiment and practical system debugging, it can meet the requirement of GPR in transferring and processing data. The paper provides a brief history of GPR, describes its principle and structure. Subsequently, PCI Bus technology is generally introduced, including the major features of PCI Bus, the concepts of basic signal, PCI Bus operation and configuration space of PCI device. Thereafter, the hardware scheme of designing high-speed data acquisition system is discussed and implemented with PCI 9050 as PCI target controller, TLC5510 as A/D converter and CPLD (Complex Programmable Logic Device) and FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) as control unit. Finally, device driver used in the system is developed with Wridriver tool. The driver is used to save data from the card to computer memory and resolve the problem of real time accessing and displaying.
