With the rapid development of silicon technology, all the functions of a system now can be integrated onto a single chip, time of SoC (System on Chip) comes. As the traditional IC design technology can not satisfy the SoC design requirement, IP (Intellectual Property) Reuse and Hardware/Software codesign are introduced to accelerate SoC design. And OCB (On Chip Bus) is most often used technique for SoC communication and IP cores connection.This paper comes from "SoC Platform of Home Networking Center (SCPHNC)", which is supported by 863 projects. In the SCPHNC, all the functions of home gateway control are integrated onto a single chip. In order to improve the system performance, satisfy system requirement for high bandwidths and high efficient communication among system components, this paper choose AMBA(Advanced Microcontroller Bus Architecture) which is appropriate for high performance SoC connection and is supported as the industry standard, as our on chip bus.Because SoC communication Architecture can highly affect the system performance, high level model of some commonly used communication architectures which take into account key architectural features including topologies and communication protocols such as the structure, clock, transfer properties and arbitration, are presented in this paper. Performance and classification of on chip bus are also discussed.AMBA which is a hierarchical bus protocol includes four different buses as ASB (Advanced System Bus), AHB (Advanced High-Performance Bus), APB (Advanced Peripheral Bus) and AXI (Advanced extensible Interface). This paper focus on AHB which is widely used as the backbone bus of its interconnection structure, transfer properties, and control logics such as arbiter, decoder and so on, and we also introduced AXI which came out recently about its new features for high performance system.This paper has a study on the application for Multi-AHB and AHB-Lite in complex systems and proposes a resolution for programmable arbitration logic to satisfy the system requirements for real time control and high bandwidth data transfer in SCPHNC.After a deep study on AMBA protocol, with the Top-Down Hardware/Software codesign process, System C which is a Modeling language is used to have a system modeling of the AMBA components.
