There is a need for a powerful computing capacity to assist the solving of some complex problems in scientific domain or e-business. In a limited time, a Personal Computer (PC) isn't able to solve some complex problems, even a Super Computer. Meanwhile, as an emerging the high-speed network and a requirement for the collaboration between people located in some different sites, in order to share resources that are distributed from a geographical or an administrative perspective such as PC, server, Super Computer, storage, network, database and instrument, a variety of distributed computing technologies have been invented. 'The Grid' as a term in computing world, was formulated in the 1990s. It referred to an envisioned advanced distributed computing paradigm with capabilities to ultimately assist in solving complex science and engineering problems beyond the scope of existing computing infrastructures. During the early phase of researching Grid, Grid has been adopted in scientific computing domain, included high-performance computing and high-throughput computing. After Web Service has been successfully developing and adopting in e-business, Grid has also been greatly developing, and it has been adopting in not only scientific domain but also e-business. Currently Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA) needs Grid technology (namely Globus Toolkit) and Web Service to support its realization. We start to consider the distributed computing as some complex problems need to be solved. To be specific, simulating dynamic waves comes out a lot of data and needs some powerful CPUs to support computing of problem. After analyzed some distributed computing technologies, we decided to adopt 'Grid' to assist the solving of problem. For making up a Grid, Globus Toolkit is considered in the first place, but it lack flexibility resulted from security processing that isn't considered by us in LAN, and it cannot effectively control the communication among deployed jobs. So, we propose a Local Grid Architecture which is more suitable for LAN's characters that are centralized resources and high-speed network. Based on Layered Grid Architecture, Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA), Globus Toolkit, European Union's DataGrid, IBM OptimalGrid, GMA and R-GMA, our research includes:(1) Based on characters and primary applications of Layered Grid Architecture and OGSA with characters of LAN, we propose a kind of local grid architecture. Its target is providing a better quality of service (QoS) that includes high-speed computing, dynamic and adaptive schedule, easy use and more efficient communication among jobs, and so on. We also proposed how to make up a local grid based on local grid architecture.(2) We analyze some resource description languages for selecting one of them to describe resource and request for resources in local grid. At last, we consider that RDF is better than ones for our grid, and analyze what are RDF and RDF-Schema and how to use them to describe resources.(3) Based on analyzing Grid Monitoring Architecture (GMA) proposed by GGF and R-GMA used in European Union's DataGrid, and integrated with LAN's characters, we propose R-GMA of local grid, and discuss in detail that R-GMA of local grid is how to construct and how to run.(4) We propose a model of resource requirement and discuss how to realize resource requirement. Resource lookup, single resource management and the method of communication among resources are deeply discussed. Due to indirect communication among resources, data transferspeed is decreased as far as between two resources are concerned. However, time that a whole job is completed is lower.(5) Based on local grid, simulating dynamic waves is realized. From the point of view of application layer of local grid, analyze how to partition a problem, how to do make up planning, how to deploy jobs on grid and how to collect results. In a word, our research target is that assisting computing capacity for solving complex problems through constructing an effective local grid based on characters of LAN in our laborat...
