With the rapid development and wide application of Internet technologies, a new computing pattern, Grid computing is booming. As a new technology, Grid naturally will be confronted with many challenging problems. One of them is how to correctly get the real time information of all kinds of grid resources in order to detect the system failure in time and balance the load of system. If the problem can be resulted, it can provide the data gist for the grid resource scheduler and the optimization for system performance. Thus the research on grid resource monitoring technology is very important for learning and applications.This paper analyzed the particularity and necessary of the monitoring for resource of computational Grid and some key technologies. And this paper also describes our own design and implementation of the Grid resource monitoring system--GridEye. GridEye is based on GMA, adopts distributed framework, which can monitor and control heterogeneous resources distributed in the wide area network, and provides information to users and high-level application. The implementation of the GridEye system is service-oriented and modular, so it is flexible, manageable, scalable, high available and so on. This system has already been deployed and is running in China National Grid System Software, supporting information access for high-level application.
