Snmp Management Ethernet Switch-based Design And Realization

In early 1990s, the traditional LAN became more and more overloaded due to the boost in computer performance and the soar of the communication traffic. The switched ethernet then came into being. It greatly improved the performance of the LAN. Today, 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet LAN has become the mainstream. In the network environment with tens of nodes, the Ethernet Switch has become the absolutely necessary network device. These network devices must have the capability to be configured via network. Nowadays, SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is the most popular network management protocol.This paper introduced the development of the Switched Ethernet LAN, analyzed the function structure of the Ethernet Switch and pointed out the plotting of the software domain and hardware domain in Ethernet Switch. This paper also put forward the architecture of the Layer 2 Ethernet Switch Software Platform, implemented a layer 2 manageable switch with a specific hardware and analyzed the key technologies of the Software Platform, including the implementation technologies of the SNMPv2c, and discussed the design issues.The switch software of this design strictly followed the rule of layering in the network stack and adopted modular design method, so it's portable, scalable, and easy to be cut to fit specific requirement. And because the design of the layer 2 switched protocols conforms to the specifications of IEEE 802.1 carefully, the switch software has the characteristic of versatility in the field of Ethernet Switch.
