As the standard network management protocol, SNMP has been widely accepted by the network device providers. Inventing SNMP is an important unity in the development history of the Internet and Intranet. It greatly reduces the management difficulties of the network managers, while reduces the manufacturing cost of the device providers. SNMP management is realized by the SNMP Agent and MIB. As the common device, ethernet switch applies in the different kinds of the terminal network. Its management mode has always been focused.The outline of this paper is to discuss the SNMP MIBs and the management plug-in programs on the HP Open View network management platform, to find out the way to perform the network devices management through MIB and SNMP.We use DES3828P Layer-3 Ethernet switch as the test device, porting SNMP Agent and related MIB files, and design the corresponding plug-in programs on HP Open View to implement the management.
