The Research And Application Of Ethernet Switch Network Protocol Stack

In recent years, with the rapid development of communication, the requirement for Ethernet switch's performance and stability becames more and more strict, which makes it crucial for us to improve hardware and software of Ethernet switch. And network protocol stack is the most important part in software. This thesis is based on the work that I've done when I was a internship in harbor networks Ltd, and it introduces the framework of Ethernet switch network protocol stack. Based on the research of two popular network protocol stack and the characteristic of Ethernet switch, the paper provides a better solution which provides a good technology support for Ethernet switch.The main questions discussed in the paper are presented in the following:1)The research and improvement on two popular network protocol stackThe network protocol stack is core of network device. It provides the platform for the communication in Internet. Based on the research of vxWorks and Linux network protocol stack, we provide a new network protocol stack which adds a Net Device Layer in vxWorks network protocol stack. Obtaining the merit of Linux network driver, the new network protocol stack can meet the special requirement of Ethernet switch.2)The adaptation of vxWorks network protocol stack and Linux network protocol stack The network protocol stack of Ethernet switch is combination of the network protocol stack of vxWorks and Linux, so the adaptation of the two network protocol stack. The mode of memory buffer is not equal in END layer of vxWorks and Net Device layer of Linux. The two network protocol stack pay attention to different part, so the adaptation of the two networks protocol stack is important.The research results presented above have been applied in the Ethernet switch of harbor networks Ltd, and has independent intellectual property and makes up the blank of Ethernet switch products. The two Ethernet switch which applied the research has passed the test of communication product. They greatly guarantee the network of telecom and enterprise.
