Storage is an integral part of business continuity. The explosive growth of digital content requires a technology that delivers high availability, scalability, reliability, which are prime requirements of today's business. The storage area network (SAN) is one promising solutions to handle storage demands of enterprise storage requirement. Storage Area Network, as the major architecture of network storage, meets the requirement of data storage, data share, and remote data recovery, etc.Fiber channel is one kind network technology which has the transmission rate high and long distance transmission. It dominates today's high-end storage network market and which is the major technology, which builds up Storage Area Network. Fiber channel switches is the core of fiber channel technology in logic which connects the host and storage devices. In Fiber Channel, fabric topology has more connectable devices than point-to-pointand arbitrated loop topology. It is more opening, flexible and scalable. No blocking switch fabric can supply most network throughput. Fiber Channel switch is the key device and nuclear part in fabric topology. This thesis based on SNMP protocol, centering on the network management system design method, in view of the characteristics of fiber channel switches, to achieve fiber channel switch network management. The specific job of this thesis is to design NMS of fiber channel switch and SNMP agent. NMS mainly rely on HP's snmp++ APIs. This thesis had realized MIB browsers and topology automatically generated function of fiber channel switch network.
