The CAD technology began in the fifties of the twentieth century. After more than 50 years' development, a lot of famous CAD software have been developed, such as UGII, I-DEAS, Pro/Engineer, AutoCAD, etc., and have been widely applied in the fields of machinery, electronics, architecture and aerospace. In order to satisfy some special needs in the development of specific products, it is necessary to add some special functions in general CAD software, that is, the further development is required in order to enhance the efficiency and quality of the product design. A systematic and detailed research about the method,process and techniques of the further development of CAD is conducted in the thesis, and a case study is also finished based on Pro/Engineer by means of Pro/Toolkit.The followed works have been done in the paper:The basic theory of the further development was summarized, which include the definition, the general process, the rules and several key techniques, and a further development model of CAD is created.Several current methods of the further development have been studied, such as Object Oriented method, component technique, ActiveX technique and DLL, and also the principle,the features and the realized modes of these methods was analyzed. The character of the further development interface of the Pro/Engineer, namely Pro/Toolkit was analyzed and the environment,the course,the methods and the tools of further development using Pro/Toolkit were discussed.The detailed study has been made about the interactive UI technology, feature-modeling technology, parametric design technology,automatic assembly technology that are related to the further development by means of Pro/Toolkit. The principle and focus methods of these technologies are analyzed. A detailed development flow is established to realize the correlative technique using C/C++. After the research of the typical standard part and the assembly relation, the model of the further development of standard part and the automatic assembly of component based on the design of feature and parameter is established.Adopting the combination of Object Oriented technology and Process-oriented technology, the further development of the parameter design of standard part and automatic assembly of component based on Pro/Engineer is completed using VC++ and Pro/Toolkit, and the software can successfully run in Pro/Engineer .The parametric design of standard part and the automatic assembly of simple component are realized. The validity of model and method of development are proved by test.
