Data Warehouse Technology In The Decision Support System

Data Warehousing (DW) is a new and advanced database technology, and it has been developed very quickly in recent years. DW use an effective way to operate the large amounts of data stored in the database and transform them into useful information, then the decision-maker can have a great help in the decision-making process by analysing these transformed information. This paper discusses the conception, modelling and architecture of the Database Warehouse, as well as the Database Mining Technology and the On-line Analytical Processing. The utilization of the DW in Decision Support System (DSS) is described in detail. In current competitive world, the DSS is absolutely necessarily needed by the decision-maker. But how to build an effective and efficient DSS to utilize the historical data and make a correct decision become much more important. In this paper, we discuss the deficiency of the DSS based on the OLTP and the advantages of the DSS based on the DW. At last, the modeling design of the DW, which is utilized by a Marketing Decision Support System, is developed.
