Geographic Information System (GIS) is an important component of Information Technology (IT) and plays a more and more role in the information society. A great deal information exists in oil and field development and most is linked with geographic information. The traditional management information system is unlinked with geographic information and doesn't meet the needs of production and management that has a close relation with geographic information so that some problems appear in so many aspects. GIS is the brand-new technologic system to solve those problems that the traditional information management system is faced with.At first, this paper brings forward its investigative intent and meanings and introduces the features, the basic contents and developing status, etc. GIS, as a kind of decision-making and supporting system, is based on geographic spatial database and timely provides many kinds of spatial and dynamic geographic information for serving for geographic research and decision-making; It discusses and analyses map projection of GIS and finds the two directional computation for Gauss-Kruger can make up the lacks of GIS in map projection. Spatial data is the key of GIS functionality and data's collection, integration, analysis and representation of GIS open the full process of spatial data. It compares some kinds of spatial data model of GIS and points that more GIS adopt vector data model as the main data model with people's improving requests to contents that data represent. Multi-source spatial data enrich the representing ability of GIS, the modules of multi-source data integration are analyzed and data integration in oil and gal field is studied. Applying spatial interpolation and data topographty model, realizes that isoline data create grid data, forms surface and makes three-dimensional geological body, according to the actual demands in oil and gas field development.Technological bases that GIS rely on are analyzed and developed andsome modules of oil and gas field development and management GIS are developed. Application of GIS technology is discussed in large engineering project, the basic functions of GIS are realized, some technologic problems, such as map projection conversion, integration of spatial and attribute database, theme map and 2.5-dimensioanl GIS, etc, are solved, and the above researches are validated, relying on the instance.This paper provides theoretical proofs for developing Oil and Gas Field Development Management GIS, enriches the technological meaning of GIS, extends the descriptive ability of GIS and perfects GIS technology in oil and gas field development.
