The thesis systematizes the woman's newspapers and periodicals from 1898 to 1949 in China. Based on the research achievement of the precursors, the thesis adopts some new research methods of feminism and sociology, and closely combines the Chinese women's newspapers with feminism and the people's liberation in modern China. Furthermore, the author fully reviews the effect and influence that different times and social background takes on woman's activities of running newspapers.The thesis consists of six parts. The preface offers the author's definition of the research subject, the research value and current research situation of the area. The first chapter presents a general picture of the rise of Chinese woman's newspapers and periodicals from 1898 to 1919, and points out its significance as a milestone. The second chapter makes an explanation to the transformation of Chinese woman's newspapers during May Fourth Movement and Grand Revolution. The third chapter offers a brief description of the predicament of Chinese woman's newspapers during the period between 1927 and 1937. The fourth chapter particularly introduces the flourishing stage of Chinese woman's newspapers in the Anti-Japan War and the Liberation War. As a conclusion, the last part sums up the historical status and function of the woman's activities of running newspapers from 1898 to 1949 in China, and points out the enlightenment and use for reference for the development of woman's newspapers of present age.
