This paper chooses female newspapers and periodicals of China from 1912 to 1936 as reading objects and studies women's reading in this historical period.In the first chapter,the concept of "female newspaper" in this study is defined,and the significance of the topic is discussed.It also introduces the research questions,the research methods,and the theories that are referenced.And summarizes the history of the study of women's reading from the pre-Qin period to the end of the Qing Dynasty and the study of women's newspapers and periodicals.The second chapter to the fourth chapter is the main part of the article.This period is divided into three stages:1910s,1920s and 1930s.In the second,third and fourth chapter,the author summarizes the social and historical situation of the three historical stages and the general situation of the female newspapers and periodicals.Moreover,the author choose 2 to 4 kinds of women's newspapers and periodicals which had greater social influence in each period,and carried out a detailed analysis of the basic situation,the founder,editors,authors and readers as well as the content and the editing strategy of the press.On the basis of this research,it also summarizes the characteristics of female reading in each historical stage:the female reading group,the female reading content and the influence of social and historical context on women's reading contents.The second chapter studies women's reading in the 1910s and the representative female journals which were chosen are "Women's Times" and"Meiyu".The female reading characteristics reflected in this period are:the main female readers are from the upper echelons of intellectuals.As for content,knowledge enlightenment is the core content,and female liberation is the pioneer ideology.The content fundamentally depend on the women's needs.In addition,they are significant impacted by the political field and economic field,and the right to speak is dominated by male intellectuals.In the third chapter,the thesis studies female reading situation reflected in the women's newspapers and periodicals in the 1920s.The representative female journals which were chosen are "Women's magazine" and "New Women".The female reading characteristics reflected in this stage are:the content of reading is based on women's liberation,taking into account of the knowledge of enlightenment.Reading content fundamentally depend on women's reading needs,also significant impacted by the political field and moral field,and the right to speak still mainly dominated by male intellectuals.The fourth chapter studied female reading situation reflected in the women's newspapers and periodicals in the 1930s.This paper chooses 4 kinds of representative female publications:"exquisite","actress","women's monthly magazine" and"woman's pictorial".And the conclusions are:the main female readers are from the middle class and above of the urban women,but the women who came from civilian class began to join the ranks of reading.The reading content for the modernist and feminist parallelism,taking into account the popularity of knowledge.Reading contents fundamentally depend on women's reading needs,also significantly influenced by the political field and the economic field.In this period,educated women had a considerable degree to make their voice heard,but in the fight for the power of women's reading,women are not dominant compared to men.The fifth chapter summarizes the female reading characteristics reflected in the women's newspapers and periodicals in the whole historical period from 1912 to 1937,and reveals the trend and the regular pattern of women's reading in the whole period.First,the female reading subject is mainly from the upper-class of knowledgeable women who lived in cities,and extended to urban and rural areas in illiterate,semi-illiterate state of the civilian class of women;from the eastern provinces of women in the city to the central and western provinces of women in small cities.Second,the emancipation of women and the initiation of knowledge are the two main contents of women reading through the whole stage.In addition,modernism rose and popularized in the 1930s.The core content of each period can be summarized as the knowledge of enlightenment-the women's liberation-the modernism.Thirdly,the influencing factors of women's reading content throughout the period,in addition to being rooted in women's general reading needs,are mainly dominated by political,economic and moral fields.The 1910s was mainly impacted by the political field and economic field,and the 1920s was mainly influenced by the political field and moral field,and the 1930s was mainly impacted by the political field and economic field.Besides,the direct control of women's newspapers and periodicals,namely the founder,editor and author group,gradually changed from male intellectuals in the 1910s to female intellectuals in 1930s,but male intellectuals were still more dominant.
