The method of manual ammeter reading cannot meet to the need of automatic management nowadays. New automatic methods have been presented in this paper. In these blue prints,the method of modem communication basing on PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) is the best for embodying automatic management.The basal concept of communication is introduced first,and then a kind of hardware composing is presented in the paper.This system is mainly consisted of collection module (secondary station),channel and primary station. It can realize automatic ammeter reading and management of the water ammeter. In chapters of firmware,the idea and realize not only of transfer protocol but also of software modules are presented. In this system,there are many method of data transfer (including:Modem,serial port,W/R 1C card,Infrared Transmitting,GSM Transmitting and embedded Internet),so the dependability is better than before.
