High--speed ana1og--to--digital converters (ADC) are wide1y app1ied forvideo and wireless conununication arena. How to eva1uate the performanceaccurately of high--speed ADC has been highly cared for. What must be donefor accurate eva1uating of high--speed ADC is to adopt dynamic test method.This paper tested high--speed ADC with computer--aided ADC characterizationmethods based on the code density histogram ana1ysis and spectral ana1ysisusing fast Fourier transformer (FFT). A 8--bit ADC AD9048 with 35MHZ MSPSand 12--bit ADC SAD1201 with 20MHZ MSPS was dynamica11y tested on SYNCHR0fl AC hybrid signal testing system of LTX company with above methods.Dynamic transfer performance parameters, such as offset. non1inearity.missing code. gain error etc., and distortion dynamic parameters, such assignal--to--noise ratio (SNR) \ signa1--to--noise + distortionratio (SINAD), tota1 harmonic distortion (THD) \ spurious--free dynamic range(SFDR)' equiva1ent number of bits (EN0B) and so on were on1y discussed inthis paper because of too many parameters of high--speed ADC. The key ofdynamic test is to gurantee the integratity of acquired information.Coherent smp1ing can avoid spectra1 1eakage in that it smp1es inputsigna1 with integer periods, but your attentation must be paid to satifycoherence condition. 1n fact, it is almost impossib1e to set up coherencecondition with increasing reso1ution of ADC under test. Then, mathemati ca1windows were studied to minimize the 1eakage effects. The correspondingexperimenta1 resu1ts were given out as we11 in the end.
