A Preliminary Study On Intelligent Terminal Design Of Future Elderly Apartment

With the soaring tendency of the aging population in China, as a vulnerablegroup in our society, the living conditions and housing qualities of Senior Citizens arebecoming key concerns for the Central Government. As the continuous developmentof the social economy, and the social evolution of endowment pattern, SeniorApartment has emerged as a housing alternative for the increasing elderly community.To date, Senior Apartments in China can be divided into three major categories:Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Nursing Apartments. With the mostlucrative investment prospect, Independent Living Apartments are aiming at high-endliving conditions and comprehensive community service as their main developmentobjectives. However, it is still worth investigating that whether the improvements ofSenior Apartment facilities will generate better acceptance and recognition by thesenior citizens.The aim of this article is to suggest that the caring environment that the seniorcitizens are pursuing is not restricted to superior living conditions, but more positive,dynamic and healthy lifestyle. Family encouragement and community support areessential to cultivate and develop this lifestyle for senior citizens. Therefore, thedesign of the intellectual terminal for future senior apartments with primary focus onfamily information sharing and secondary focus on community communication willbe the main approach to achieve this demand.The research of intellectual terminal is based on the operational environment ofthe emerging senior apartments. Targeting on the practical demand of the seniorcitizens, this study analyses the unique cognitive psychological behavior of the seniorcitizens while using intellectual interactive interface from electronic products bycognitive experiments. Meanwhile, this research explores senior citizens’ responses tothe design of the intelligent and smart interactive interfaces. This thesis also summarizes the key elements of the interactive design for senior citizens that fulfiltheir ease of use demands. This summarizes which will also contribute to futureresearch on interactive design for senior citizens.
