Between News And Entertainment

Entertainment function is the most significant feature of mass media, but it is not approved by the theoretical circles whether news has"entertainment"function. Whether a piece of news can entertain people is decided on whether they have feelings of joy, relaxation, fun and other potential factors about this news. However, in the real life, there are too many news entertainment phenomena. Even a very serious and even tragic thing may become entertained and become unrecognizable. Therefore, the "entertainment" is just like a little "MSG" to press. If the news entertainment is constantly applied, it is like that one can only smell the food fragrance but can never eat the food itself. The result is only"drawing water with a sieve".Stars are the key resources in the entertainment news. They have many problems, which lead to such problems in the entertainment press reports as star news idolizing, the phenomenon of"media enthusiasts"ending with difficulty, the publicity of star news, star privacy transparency, stars'luxurious life,"public opinion kidnapping", star news yellowing, social morality vulgarization, etc. These problems caused many adverse effects on society. Consequently, they have also aroused great concern in the community.Besides the current "news entertainment" and "entertainment news vulgarization" phenomena, the vulgarization, homogeneity, the lack of creativity and other issues exposed in television entertainment programs are worth our concern. Hence, it is necessary to initiate the mass media to persist the report idea of"the healthy entertainment"and to reduce the above-mentioned undesirable tendency in the news report as much as possible so as to achieve the health in news and entertainment world and cause it to be beneficial to the social development. Also, I consider it necessary to put forward the idea of"the entertainment program news". Trying to add some "news" method to the entertainment program, such as the "three close" principle in news programs, reporting in an objective documentary, and the report principles of fairness and balance etc. These positive creative methods should be applied to make entertainment out of the errors of stereotype.
