With the rapid development of information technology, different ways of medias begin to mix together. In order to spread the information through any media, the traditional media increasingly sets up the websites to march into the new media market through the fierce competition. Since press has been ever engaged in the production of texts and pictures, the production of videos is out of its capability. However, the application to videos in the press is taken as the breaking point of media transformation. Thus it is a difficult and long road to apply videos in press websites.Combining with the relevant theories of communication and the practical experiences of the press at home and abroad, the thesis analyzes the current situation of the video applications of newspaper websites in the omnimedia transformation process. By comparative studies and system arrangement, it attempts to explore the strategies which are employed during the process of developing video applications in newspaper websites after analyzing the present status and problems to promote the omnimedia process. The thesis combines four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction of this thesis by carding and concluding different definitions of "omnimedia" and defines that: omnimedia is a method of news production which breaks the previous way of producing one core news media product only, as a new form with a variety of news products. Meanwhile, according to the "5W" mode, the thesis puts forward the characteristics of "the omnimedia era", which contains the diversity of the media subjects, the abundant media contents, the integrating of different media, subdividing of the audience and the stereo-effect of communication. The thesis analyzes the omnimedia transformation process of China's newspaper from the initial stage of expanding electronic edition to setting up news websites, then, the stage of establishing omnimedia group.Secondly, this thesis discusses the advantages of network video from the perspectives of the user's experiences and choosing, including the breakthrough of the restrictions of space and time, the feeling of liveness, the convenience and the time-saving of watching website video and mobilizing the audience's initiative and interactivity. According to the statistics from CNNIC and other reports, the thesis finds that the network video faces a huge market space and the feasibility and the necessity to develop website video for the newspaper websites.Then, quoting a lot of cases of video application of newspaper websites of domestic and foreign, the thesis provides a detailed analysis of the basis status of video application of newspaper websites in the perspectives of the general characteristics of video application development, the source of video content and the positioning of video columns. In the way of contrast and summarizing, the thesis concludes some shortages which China's newspaper websites is confronted with in the process of development of video application, such as backwards concepts and lack of investments and talents, etc.Finally, based on the discussion above, the thesis puts forward that China's newspaper websites need a suitable and effective developing mode and positive strategies by studying the advanced experiences of the foreign counterparts and paying enough attention to our own condition. The strategies include video market positioning, more video content supply and the brand strategy, etc.The author collected large amounts of data from domestic to abroad, from central to local levels, from the commercial websites to video websites, also experienced a lot of network video products. They are the basis of this research. Hope this research to contribute to the development of video applications of China's newspaper websites, and the omnimedia theory.
