External Exhibition Countermeasures For Upgrading China's Museums

Organizing and participating in the international touring exhibitions as well as operating in coordination with the national foreign affairs and international non-governmental exchanges actively is an important mission for Chinese museums. Although our museums have made great achievements since the founding of People's Republic of China, especially since the reform and opening policy in 1970s, there still exist many problems in practice of international exchange exhibitions. Generally speaking, international exchange exhibitions of current level cannot yet meet China's new requirements of constantly enhancing the comprehensive national strength and the soft power of culture, improving the international status and promoting the international level of museums of our country.This paper reviews the history, investigates and analyzes the current situation and achievements, emphatically discusses and comments the existing problems of the international exchange exhibitions organized by our museums under the new situation. On this basis, the thesis proposes some strategic thoughts and an overall plan for our international exchange activities, which helps to push our national image up and elevate the soft power of China.
