With the intensified ocean development, rapid data growth and the strong demand of data sharing, it has been established for many marine databases and systems. Currently, these marine network-based information sharing systems feature a lack of space-based visual expression. In this paper, a marine geophysical information sharing platform (MGISP) was designed, configured and developed based on WebGIS technology using MapServer Open Source platform. The platform can provide convenient, efficient and interactive marine geophysical information sharing and visualization through internet or intranet in order to improve marine scientific data exchange and use.The article introduced the basic background,the basic principles of WebGIS,the implementation and architecture of WebGIS firstly.According to the characteristics and application requirements of Marine geophysical data , with standard modeling language UML to the marine geophysical database (meta-database, basic database and spatial data warehouse) for design and analysis the relationships between entities, based on Oracle database management system on the marine Construction of geophysical database. The designed Geo-spatial Database uses the combination of Geo-spatial engine ArcSDE and desktop client software ArcCatalog to store and manage the special data.Based on the three tier Browser/Server architecture model, the system is consisted by three function logic tiers:user service tier, business logic tier, and database service tier. The user service tier is client side and the business logic and database service tiers are server side. The characteristic of the system is fat server and thin client side. The server side has the functions of image management, user management. Image management includes image preprocessing, image searching, display and dowmoad. User management includes user registration, user information modification,and user logging in. The client side just has the functions of user request processing and results display.The last part of the thesis is the conclusion for the whole thesis and the prospect for the typhoon study.
