With the dramatic development of enterprise information in Chinese, CIMS (Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems) in many iron and steel enterprises has made great contribution. CIQS (Computer Integrated Quality System), an important component part of CIMS, provides methods, within the life-span of products, to implement the integration of whole quality processes and the total quality management. CIQS emphasizes information integration and information processing. However, for different reasons, there exist several "isolated information islands" in many Chinese iron and steel enterprises, within which the data exchange and integration of the heterogeneous databases between different subsystems is blocked.As a result, a lot of, quality data is missing and great damage has been done to the total quality management in enterprises. Therefore, in order to carry out CIQS, we have to solve a critical problem. That is how to implement the integration of the heterogeneous databases and build a quality information sharing platform for enterprises.Based on the needs of quality data integration in "Kunming Iron and Steel Group QS System" and its practical situation, this thesis mainly discusses the theory and practical ways for the integration of the heterogeneous databases and emphasizes the study of the application and realization of the XML-based middleware in the architecture of the heterogeneous databases integration. The author made a study on how to design data integration for steel melting stations in "Kunming Iron and Steel Group QS system". Based on VisualStudio.NET, a software developing platform, making use of the newest ADO.NET database visiting technology, using XML as carrier of data transmission, making use of Socket technology providing channel of data transmission, this thesis made an effort to develop a software and succeeded in implementing a perfect data exchange and integration between the third stations of different steel melting and the second steel melting station, creating a data exchange and integration platform. By adopting XML as the global data mode of data integration and a screen for heterogeneity among different data sources, the author put forward an effective solution to the problem of exchange among heterogeneous databases. This design has merits of good flexibility, strong problem tackling ability, and short time consumption and low risks for developing. Actually, it has been successfully put into application in Kunming Iron and Steel Group.The theory and practical ways for the integration of the heterogeneous databases discussed in this thesis can provide useful experiences for iron and steel enterprises in their information integration construction and thus proves a great value of practical application and spreading.
