Ontology Applications And Research In The Integration Of Medical Information

With the fastly development of HIS, it is playing an important role in sharing information. However, more and more heterogeneous data sources appear, which is difficult to exchange and share information between them. Those systems become "Information isolated island".It is main problem for information integration that how to integrate heterogeneous data sources and use them.At present, the traditional method of integration only can solve heterogeneous information in structure, syntax and system in some extent and has nothing to deal with semantic heterogeneity. Not only can ontology describe the meanings of concepts, it also describes the relations between the concepts, and it has strong capabilities of expressing the semantic of the concepts. At the same time, it also obtains the implicit relations between concepts. Therefore, it is effective to solve semantic heterogeneity.Firstly, current HIS is discussed, the disadvantages of them are studied, and ontology-based information integration is introduced.Secondly, the basic concepts of ontology and rules, methods, languages and tools of constructing ontology are introduced. We analyze the advantage and the methods of the information integration based on ontology and put forward Healthcare Information Integration Framework.Thirdly, we introduce the construction of ontology and the mapping of ontology, propose the method of computating similarity, and contruct ontologies by example. Finally, the implement of prototype system is introduced.
