Because of the complication in the design, calculation and construction of arch dams, Computer Aided Design (CAD) on arch dams is used much more widely and the demand to it is higher and higher. It is an important research subject in the development of the soft wares for arch dam design and analysis that it includes friendly interactive user-interface, efficient data-manage, high integration and nonlinear simulation analysis.In this paper, based on the theory of visualization and parameterization theory and the design criterion of arch dam, the Object Oriented Programming (OOP), visual interface design and graphics-processing technique is analyzed. The 3D Visualization of arch dam design and drawing software system is developed.For the current CAD technology and the development tools, the feasibility of developing CAD systems based on .NET platform has been put forward and basic function drawing modules are developed using VB.NET language in AutoCAD. The design & drawing flat is Civil 3D, and the development environment is Visual Studio.NET 2005 combined with VBA and ActiveX.The developing technology of CAD is deeply researched and a few of reasonable methods are brought forward in this paper which are very useful in development of CAD software. The software is used by different parameters time and again, under the above foundation, the system has a friendly interface, simply operation way, powerful function and runs safely, realizes parametric design and parametric drawing form primal data to draw. So it has the practical value in the production.
