In the main process of CAD and CAE, the time of pretreatment accounts for40%~45%of the total time that used in all stages, using the parameteric finite element modeling method can significantly improve the speed of pretreatment, and directly improve the efficiency of finite element calculation.In order to improve the modeling efficiency of MIDAS/CIVIL, this paper introduced the MCTOOLS programme, which is developed based on the thought of parametric finite element modeling and in view of the MIDAS/CIVIL. MCTOOLS can writes the data that reflect the structure’s finite element information to MCT file in batchs, thereby completes the establishment of model, realizing the parametric finite element modeling in MIDAS/CIVIL.Firstly, this paper introduces the common bridge structures in the practical application, and modeling theoretical basis of these structures in the finite element software. These structures include the straight, skew and curved bridge of single-beam simply supported beam bridge, single-beam continuous beam bridge and grillage beam bridge use of beam element, single span and two span skew closed frame bridge use of plate element, straight, skew and curved bridge of T beam bridge and box section beam bridge use of three-dimensional entity element, straight suspender tied-arch bridge, oblique suspender tied-arch bridge and network arch bridge.Then, make a summary of the methods of establishing the models of these structures directly using of MIDAS/CIVIL, and the disadvantages of these methods, and then establish parametric programme templates of these structures based on MCTOOLS.Lastly, make a calculation and analysis of the stiffness and internal force changing with skew angle of single span and two span skew framework, get the relationship between skew angle with structure’s stiffness and internal force. Make a calculation and analysis of the vertical stiffness and stability changing with oblique angle of suspender of network arch, get the relationship between oblique angle of suspender with structure’s vertical stiffness and stability.Through the comparison of modeling directly use of MIDAS/CIVIL and use of MCTOOLS, shows the advantage of parametric finite element modeling.
