Aim: To establish animal model with TCM jaundice of Yang—syndrome to explore the effect of Yinchenhao decoction with function of clearing heat and dampness and promoting gall bladder to relieve jaundice on absorption, transformation and excretion of bilirubin in TCM jaundice of Yang—syndrome animal model and further reveal the mechanism of its function.Materials and Methods: The animal model of TCM jaundice of Yang — syndrome in rats was established, which lived in the damp and hot environment and were fed with high—fat—sucrose diet, combined with the injury of liver induced by intragastric administration with ANIT. General biological state, liver function, humoral immunity, the change of content of β — Glucuronidase, activity of UDPGT and absorption rate of D—xylose after treating with Chinese herbal decoction ("Yinchenhao" decoction) were observed to explore the effect of the decoction on metabolism of bilirubin. Results: The model of TCM jaundice of Yang—syndrome in rat is consistent with the characters of jaundice , that were hyperbilirubinemia, hyperbiliacidemia, increased serum ferment, hyperfunction of humoral immune function , increased β — glucuronidase , decreased UDPGT and D — xylose and the pathohistological change of liver accord with pathological change of intrahepatic cholestasis and main character of ANIT jaundice model. All model rats had the symptoms of dampness—heat syndrome and had the significant changes in experimental data of dampness —heat syndrome. The experimental data of jaundice and dampness —heat syndrome were both improved significantly after treating with herbal decoction. Conclusion: Yinchenhao decoction has the function of protecting liver function to relieve jaundice. Its mechanism may have relationship with decrease of content of β — Glucuronidase , inducing UDPGT activity, promoting excretion of bilirubin and so improve metabolism of bilirubin.
