Objective: To evaluate the current situation of sensory integrative dysfunction (SID) in school-age children and the causes of SID, and to study the effects of SID on neuropsychological development, behavior problems and learning in children. Furthermore, the research aimed to explore effective approaches and contents, and to promote sensory integrative ability and psychological quality of children.Methods:1. Survey and study: 427 children from a common primary school in Taiyuan were investigated with cluster sampling, who were assessed at general condition, sensory integrative ability, behavior problems and family environment by questionnaires. According to the purpose of research, 70 cases of children with SID and 35 cases of normal children were selected at random. By means of DDX-200 multifunction psychological machine, Raven's standard progressive matrices and concentration test, some neuropsychological indexes of them were measured.2. Intervention experiment: 70 children with SID chosed in survey were randomly divided into intervention group (n=35) and control group (n=35). Comprehensive intervention was given to intervention group for two months. Specific intervention methods were as follows:(1) Student's intervention was mainly collective sensory integrative therapy, which was given three times each week and about two hours per course. Concrete training projects included of scooter boards, only-leg chair, et al, in addition, pulsing special activities, family sensory integrative training, psychological support and behavior rectified measures.(2) Parent's intervention consisted of study class and interchanging views meeting once a week. Meanwhile, booklets named "parent's handbook" was used to give.(3) We exchange views with chargers of classes once two weeks so as thatthey could understand and encourage training students. After intervention, sensory integrative development check table, conners children's behavior checklist, eight neuropsychological items were tested again.Results:1. The whole incidence of SID was 40.75% in school-age children. The rate of light SID was 27.40%, and the serious was 13.75%. The incidence rate of SID in the boy was significantly higher than that of the girl. The difference among age-group was not significant.2. The major influencing factors of SID were family contradictory degree, father's cultural degree, daily activities, emotional communication, excessive protection, encouragement of parents, and et al.3. There was obviously difference between SID group and normal group in simple visual reaction time, simple auditory reaction time, visual choosing reaction time, vision attention division, arm stability, the memory-lose and concentration tests. Sensory integrative dysfunction is related to neuropsychological indexes negatively.4. The incidence of SID in children with behavior problems was significantly higher than those in no behavior problems. At the same time, there was negatively correlation between sensory integrative ability and behavior problems.5. Evaluations of intervention effectiveness were as follows:(1) Sensory integrative ability of intervention group had been remarkably improved, with analysis of variance of repeated measurement, the results illustrated that the mean score increases of tactile defensiveness and proprioceptive integrative disorder in intervention group were notably higher than those of control group after intervention.(2) Some behavior problems of intervention group had been ameliorated to certain degree. The mean scores of anxiety and hyperactivity index of two group in post-test were obviously lower than those in pre-test.However, on thebasis of changing trend, variable value of intervention group was significantly higher than that of control group.(3) Some neuropsychological indices in intervention group had been significantly improved. After intervention, arm stability, vision division and attention test had been markedly ameliorated, but...
