Objective The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical effect of glass fiber posts by compared with elinvar posts in restoration of anterior tooth defect. Methods Collect 192 tooth of 148 patients from prosthodontics department of 5 hospitals in Datong city who were diagnosed tooth defect from oct.2007 to oct.2009, which were divided into 2 groups at random.96 ill tooth treated with glass fiber post constituted group A, while other 96 tooth treated with elinvar post constituted group B. After 1-2 years follow-up, clinical effects of two groups were evaluated mainly from the following five aspects:root fracture, post fracture, post looseness or fall off, crown looseness or fall off and gingival margin colour change. All data were analyzed statistically in SPSS 13.0.Results Tooth fracture:none in group A while 6 in group B, which shows statistical difference (P<0.05); post fracture:3 in group A and 1 in group B, which shows no significant statistical difference (P>0.05); post loose or fall off:1 in group A while 7 in group B, shows significant difference in statistics (P<0.05); crown loose or fall off:1 in group A and 2 in group B, shows no significant difference in statistics(P>0.05), gingival margin colour change:none in group A while 8 in group B, shows significant difference in statistics (P<0.05)Conclusion Glass fiber post shows better adhesive property, esthetic property and root fracture resistance than elinvar post. These 2 posts shows same effect when consider post loose or fall off and crown loose or fall off. All in all, besides simplicity of operation, glass fiber posts have good biological characteristics, which can fulfil clinical requires of anterior tooth prothodontics.
