Objective:To observe and compare the clinical efficacy of glass fiber post and cast metal post on the maxillary anterior teeth restoration in a randomized control trial and provide theoretical basis for clinical application.Materials and Methods:One-hundred and sixty patients with210anterior teeth requiring post-core and crown repair were included. The patients were assigned randomly into two groups of105teeth each. After root canal treatment, the teeth in group A (n=105) were repaired with glass fiber post and composite resin post core, whilst those in group B (n=105) were repaired with cast metal post and core. After two-year follow-up, Chi-square test was used to compare the incidence of clinical rehabilitation including root fracture, post break, crown or post dislodgment, gingival marginal discoloration and apical periodontitis. Results:Fifteen patients were excluded from the study as they failed to follow the revisit. Data were obtained from the remaining one-hundred and forty-five patients with185teeth including seventy-seven patients with95teeth in group A and sixty-eight patients with90teeth in group B. Six teeth in group A had glass fiber posts break, one had glass fiber post fall off, without root fracture occurred. Six teeth in Group B had root fracture, eight had metal cast post fall off, without post. There was statistically significant difference in the incidence of root fracture, post break and post fall off occurred in two groups (P<0.05). but no statistically difference in the incidence of crown fall off, gingival marginal discoloration and apical periodontitis(P>0.05).Conclusion:On clinical repair of the maxillary anterior residual crowns and roots, glass fiber post is better than cast metal post to protect root facture and post dislodgment; but no obvious difference in the incidence of crown fall off, gingival marginal discoloration.
