Present-day society, whether developed countries, newly industrialized countries or developing countries, there are a large number of small and medium-sized. The development of SMEs is becoming a trend in the world. From the practice of all countries in the world economy, the small and medium enterprises to increase employment for the population, to promote technological progress and economic growth and stability has an important role can not be substituted by large enterprises. However, the characteristics of SMEs as a result of its own constraints, which are usually very short life cycle.The article from the enterprise life-cycle, introduce China's small and medium-sized information of the status, think that small and medium enterprises in order to extend its own life cycle, need for competitive intelligence, and in different stages of the life cycle ,because of the development of SMEs in different ways, various stages of the competitive intelligence needs are also different.The article is based on the enterprise life-cycle, introducing the popular life-cycle model of enterprise, then attempt to put forward a new life cycle model as the basis for the article that activities of CI of SMEs also need to time different.The paper is divided into six part, the first part of the preamble to introduce the topic of this article the background and related research projects at home and abroad the status; second section describes the status of SMEs; the third section describes the life cycle of the enterprise theory of evolution and development, and to propose a new model as the basis for the article; Analysis of Part IV is divided into small and medium enterprises in various stages of the life cycle characteristics, and based on analysis of these characteristics and to draw the various stages required for the content of competitive intelligence; Fifth part of longevity by small and medium-sized need to deal with it; the sixth part of the conclusions and recommendations in this article.
