With the rapid development of information society and competitive intelligence (CI), strategic application of CI has been developing increasingly in enterprises. CI is urgently required in small and medium enterprises to assist the strategy plan and management.In China, small and medium enterprises need CI urgently, meanwhile, they lack abundant fund, CI talents, CI knowledge and appropriate directions in CI practice. These all lead to the launch of this thesis.The thesis firstly introduces the basic knowledge of CI, the strategic effect of CI in strategy management, and valuable experiences in foreign countries. Then the thesis sums up some useful points for small and medium enterprises from strategic application of CI and valuable experiences in foreign countries.With the useful points, strategic management theory and the CI features of small and medium enterprises, the thesis researches the practical and strategic application methods of CI in small and medium enterprises. The methods and CI system include competitive strategy and CI requirement in different industries, company organization of CI, CI search, CI analysis and CI service methods. Meanwhile, the thesis brings blue ocean strategy into CI application.At the end, the thesis illuminates the theory with two case studies in respective sizes and industries. And the cases demonstrate that the methods put forward in this thesis are able to provide directions for small and medium enterprises in strategic CI practice.
