With the growth in demand for a variety of business, people have become increasingly demanding high-bandwidth networks, and optical fiber communication networks follow the rapid development. Optical transceiver modules, as one of the key factors of the communication networks, are widely used in systems of Synchronous Optical network and Synchronous Digital Hierarchy, Asynchronous Transfer Mode, Fiber Distributed Data Interface, fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet, etc. At present, more and more kinds of integrated optical transceiver modules are needed in all kinds of networks, and demands are getting higher and higher. In order to meet the growing needs of the system, optical modules are developing to be standardized, miniaturized and intelligent. Using the chip circuit design, more and more functions can be realized, including APC, RSSI, high speed IC connection, DDM, maintaining the Optical Power and Extinction ratio, etc. The Realization and application of these key technologies, can simplify the designation of the modules, reduce design time and increase the reliability.The first chapter of this thesis first introduced the background of the development of SFP, analyze the status quo and the future trends, and then introduce the main research of the subject. The second chapter studies the ordinary used chips and circuit design, make a conclusion and introduction of the circuit technology about main stream products, and bring some defects and problems. The third chapter provides a complete set of solutions and analyzes theories based on the chipsets of MAXIM, analyze the theorem, composition and circuit functions of every part, with an emphasis on how to keep optical power and extinction ratio in circuit design, and bring an improvement of ROSA craft. The forth chapter illustrates the applications and functions based on the circuit design proposals, then put forward the improvement of the simulation methods and specific simulation ways, at last, analyze the simulation results. Chapter V brings up a comprehensive testing proposal and the test instruments and indicators. Then, carry out a detailed test on the Gigabit SFP and analyze it, which is Compliant with the design requirements and can be put into use. Chapter VI is the summary of the full text.
