Because of the different automation processes in each coal mine, the mine network communications' environments are different,.In order to make full use of mine communication resources, to grasp the direction of communications technology, to extend the communication distance, to facilitate the arrangement of measuring points, and to enhance the stability of the reliability of communication, it is necessary to use the embedded technology and design new type of monitoring sub-station adapted to multiple communication environments.The sub-station has the function of self-diagnosis and fault tolerance, and can ensure reliability of data transmission.This paper study a new type of intelligent monitoring sub-station adapted to multiple communication environments.Being controlled by the embedded ARM processor, the sub-station can complete the two-way data transmission between the main computer and smart sensors.It is a connecting center of the smart sensors and monitoring computer. On the one hand, as a gateway,monitoring sub-station can directly forward the instructions which from the computer to the sensors based on Modbus protocol.On the other hand, when monitoring station and computer communications failure, the monitoring sub-station can work as a Modbus serial master, and communicates directly with the smart sensors by the M-Bus, and store historical datas. After the resumption of computer communications, the sub-station works as Modbus TCP server which communicates the computer via Ethernet, or as a Modbus serial slave computer via RS485 bus, and uploads historical datas. Monitoring computer can set the sub-station parameters or view the real-time datas through a browser. The monitoring sub-station uses uClinux as its operating system, and completes communication tasks by establishing the child processes of Modbus_TCP service, Web server service, and Modbus serial master service.This paper analyzes the failure mode of the monitoring sub-station.Combining with the built-in-test theory, the paper raises each module's BIT method and designes the BIT module to achieve a sub-station fault diagnosis, and realize the plug and play function for the sensors.
