Environmental problem is a severe issue faced by the whole world. The global environmental governance is an important part of global governance. Environmental diplomacy derived from environmental problem has also been a vital part of diplomacy. As the most developed country in the current world, every move on the environmental issue from the United States will greatly influence its diplomacy. Since George.W.Bush took the office in 2001, the environmental diplomacy of the United States has changed a lot compared with that of President Clinton. The environmental diplomacy of Bush administration has been blamed, especially when Bush administration rejected Kyoto Protocol. Through the analysis on the reasons leading to the great changes in the environmental diplomacy of Bush administration, this thesis summarizes the environmental diplomacy of Bush administration and gives an objective judgement. Meanwhile, this thesis analyzes the features and the essentials of the environmental diplomacy of Bush administration. As a part of the foreign policy of Bush administration, the environmental diplomacy of Bush administration is featured with unilateralism, and it is also a reflection of Bush Doctrine. By taking the interests of the United States as the top principle, the Bush administration deals with its environmental diplomacy in the view of its own national interests. Through the study of this thesis, it is estimated that the official position of the United States on the environmental issue may change in the future. Nowadays, the environmental diplomacy has become a new stage in the international politics. Through the study on the environmental diplomacy of the Bush administration, we can learn some thoughts and apocalypse on the Chinese environmental diplomacy. As the biggest developing country in the world, China should act according to the national ability. Taking the national interest as the top principle, China should maintain a good relationship between domestic development and environmental protection. China should emphasize the environmental diplomacy by establishing coherent policy and principle on environmental diplomacy, with the aim of building a responsible international image.
