Biotechnology industry is a strategic and rising industry, which relates to the national economy and the people's livelihood, and also is one of the most promising and positive areas, that overtakes the level of productive forces of developed countries, realizes late-development advantage and sustainable development. Whether cultivating large numbers of high-quality biology undergraduates, will determine the level of biology science research, development process and quality of biotechnology industry. Hubei has powerful education of science strength in life science. Wuhan has become one of important bases in national biotechnology industry and national life science research and talents training. Research and strengthening its training on innovation spirit and practice ability of biology undergraduate is not only the main content of the quality project of higher education, but also is an important theoretical and practical task to be solved in new era, of which universities in Hubei province meet the requirements of the development of national biotechnology industry.This paper focuses on innovation spirit and practice ability of biology undergraduates in universities of Hubei province. The author analyzes and defines several important definitions such as innovation, innovative spirit, practice ability, the kinds of biological major etc, briefly summarizes the existing theories about cultivating innovation spirit and practice ability of biology undergraduates, later the actuality of undergraduate education of biology in universities of Hubei province are analyzed and a reflection on successful reform experiences in cultivating innovative spirit and practice ability of biology undergraduates included about five typical universities in Hubei province. Learning from the successful experience of these universities, clearing training goal orientation, optimizing course systems, implementing research teaching, enhancing practical teaching, strengthening the building of the contingent of teachers, improving the management system, are probed for the effective ways to cultivate innovative spirit and practice ability of biology undergraduates in universities of Hubei province. Moreover, relevant measures are respectively recommended to education authorities.
