Development Strategy Of Xiamen Port's Domestic-lined Container Business

As an efficient, fast, safe and scaled way, the container transportation has been becoming a major means of modern transportation. In recent years, the handling volume of containers by the coastal ports of China has been growing rapidly. Xiamen Port, as a major pivotal port along China' s coast and one of the top eight container-handling ports within the country, have witnessed fast growth in the container transportation in past years, but still faces some challenges. This paper makes a study of the strategy on developing Xiamen Port' s domestic-lined container transportation.This paper first reviews the developing process and current situation of Xiamen Port, On the basis of analyzing the business structure and the environment for the domestic-lined container business of Xiamen Port and by using various kinds of strategy analyzing tools, lists the challenges and problems faced with in the aspect of the development If domestic-lined container business of Xiamen Port. By comparing with its main competitors(Quanzhou Port, Zhangzhou Port and other ports in China), illustrates the strength and weakness for Xiamen Port to develop its domestic-lined container business, and the internal conditions and potentials for accelerated growth. Then based on the above analysis and combined with the actual working experience of the writer, discusses feasible solution plans for the present and the future.This paper uses the theory of strategic management, qualitatively and quantitatively analyzes the challenges and problems during the development process of Xiamen Port' s domestic-lined container business, proposes the basis of the said development strategy, and seeks to provide good references for higher competent departments on strategic decisions and sustainable development of the port.
