The Current Situation And A Study On Competitiveness Of Export Industries In Jiangsu Province

As a large export province, Jiangsu has experienced rapid development in foreign trade in recent years and it still remains to grow in the years to come. Its export volume is among the top throughout the nation and its economy is becoming more and more dependent on export industries. Export industries have become an important factor in Jiangsu's economy.We review theories on international trade and industrial competitiveness, on which base, we build the framework of theories and the index system of competitiveness and try to analyze the current situation of Jiangsu's exportation and evaluate the competitiveness of leading export industries. It is with the purpose that we could make some contribution to the fundamental support in the field of Jiangsu's lasting competitiveness in export industries.In this paper, we try to make some innovations in the following points. Firstly, we formulate the three-layer index system to evaluate competitiveness of export industries in Jiangsu province on the basis of two-layer index system by Wei Houkai and Wu Lixue. We initiate to evaluate the competitiveness of the top 20. Secondly, we make both horizontal and vertical comparisons with more data covering wider areas to make it clear.The study shows that among the export industries in Jiangsu province, high-tech industries have grown rapidly and some of them have exceeded large traditional export industries such as textile industry. High-tech industries are becoming more and more important in Jiangsu's exportation.
