Food safety concerns people's physical and mental health, life security, as well as social stability and sustainable economic development. In recent years, China's food safety incidents have been repeatedly exposed by the news media, Faced with the worsening food security situation, the Chinese government has increased the monitoring of food safety, and adopts a series of measures. So far, the"Food Safety Law"has been implemented for a year since taking into effect in June 2009. Under the government's strict control, the country's food security situation has been improved. However, China's food security situation is still not optimistic. The article, using many research approaches such as comparative analysis, literature survey, case analysis and countermeasure study, analyzes problems of food safety supervision system and factors that have caused these problems, and then provides some useful suggestions to solve these problems based on experiences gained by developed countries.The article is composed of five parts: the first part introduces the background. The second part describes basic theoretical knowledge on food safety supervision system, including definitions of foodstuff and food safety; food safety problem manifestations; meaning, characteristics and necessity of food safety supervision. The third part firstly introduces our country's poisonous milk powder events in recent years, then discusses problems existing in the supervision system and factors that caused these problems. The fourth part introduces food safety supervision systems and experiences from developed countries. The fifth part discusses countermeasures to problems of national food safety supervision system. This part proposes the guiding principle as well as measures to solve these problems.
