Stabilizing and improving the coke quality plays a very important role in coalblending for coke production. So does expanding the coking coal resources. In orderto provide suitable parameters for petroleum coke added into coal blend,firstly,thispaper studied basic properties of single coal and petroleum coke,which includedproximate analysis,elementary composition,technological properties, microstructurecharacteristics,molecular geometry and thermogravi-metric analysis,etc. Then theinfluence of petroleum coke added into single coking coal on caking index andGieseler fluidity was researched,and the compatibility of petroleum coke withsingle coking coal was investigated in particular. Finally the influence of petroleumcoke added into coal blending on coke quality was analyzed by the poilt coke oventest. The results showed that:ash content of petroleum coke was very low but itssulfur content was very high,and ash content of the coke produced from coal blendswith petroleum coke decreased a bit but its sulfur content increased slightly. Thereflectivity of petroleum coke was2.256%,and it was higher than high rank of cokingcoals but lower than anthracite coal;Optical texture of petroleum coke was mainlycomposed of coarse mosaic texture and leaflet texture,and the optical anisotropy ofthe petroleum coke was very strong. It was shown from infrared spectroscopy that theabsorption peak of—OH group at3450cm-1of petroleum coke was stronger thanother single coal while the aromatic condensation of petroleum coke was very close tocharred coal F and lean coal G;Thermogravimetric analysis showed that petroleumcoke was slower than coal G replaced on the rate of weight loss, and thethermogravimetric curve was more gentle. A little decrease of caking ability could befound by adding a small proportion of petroleum coke into single coking coal.Different single coking coal presented different drop rate,and the poorer caking coalsdecreased more greatly. According to5kg coke oven test utilizing the coal blendingscheme that a part of the lean coal was replaced by petroleum coke,we obtained that acertain proportion of petroleum coke added into coal blend with good caking abilitywas able to promote the development of coke anisotropy,the value of OTI would beincreased greatly, and the thermal properties (the reactivity of coke and thepost-reaction strength of coke)could be improved.
