On The Avian Community Structure And Prevention Measure For Birdstrike At Nanning Wuxu International Airport

Btrdstrike is a collision between an airborne animal (usually a bird) and a human-made vehicle.The FAI had put the birdstrike hazard upgraded to A-class aviation disaster.The research about birds at NanningWuxu Airport developed later, only a few reports had been found. In consideration of Guangxi province, which the airport belongs to, is in one of the 25 globle biodiversity key areas, and also in the East Asian-Australasian Flyway, which means that Bird strike is more likely to occur, when the airport is located on the place avian resource is abundant.A survey on avian resource of Nanning Wuxu International Airport was investigated from Dec.2014 to Nov.2015. Based on the research of avian community and habitat to analysis the community structure, avian diversity of different habitats., and establish a modle to calculate the birdstrike risk value. Combining with the analysis, several prevention countermeasures were proposed. The results of the study were as follows:(1)There were in total 12 orders,38 families and 102 species of birds found inside and surrounding the airport, the species of Passeriformes were the most.among the 102 species, there were 60 species of resident birds, accounting for 58.82%; 13 species of summer migrant, accounting for 12.75%; and there were 26 species of winter migrant, accounting for 25.49%;3 species of passing migrant, accounting for 2.94%. The composition of avifauna is mostly Oriental species. The importance value analysis showed that Hirundo rustica, Pycnonotus sinensis, Lonchura punctulata, etc. were the most important species in the bird community of Nanning Wuxu international airport.(2)The avian community changed obviously during the year. Spring and autumn were the two activity peaks of birds. The sequence of diversity index and evenness index of four seasons were spring> summer> winter> autumn, dominance index showed a negative correlation with the two indexs.All the habitats could provided abundant food for bird in spring, so there were plenty of birds,and the community were more balanced and stable. The number of birds reached a maximum level in Autumn. The large number of Hirundo rustica colony in this season,causing the community’s hight dominance level and remain instable.(3) Bushwood was the most important habitat surrounding the airport, it had the hightest diversity index and evenness index, dominance index was low, the great heterogeneity of bushwood habitat was the basic of species diversity and avian community stable. Bushwood and farmland,farmland and grassland had a high degree of avian community similarity.(4) Through observation inside the airport, it was discovered that the activity of birds appears fastigum at morn and nightfall. In spring and summer, the temperature was very suitable in the morning, the birds’activities were more obvious. In autumn and winter, the birds’activity fastigium happened in the afternoon.The Hirundo rustica colony got toghter foraging for food at 16:00 in autumn.The birds were more active in the afternoon in winter because it was cold in the morning.(5)Using the birdstrike risk model to assess the birdstrike hazard,and discussing the reliability of this risk model. According to the model, the risk grade of 7 species was extremely high:Ardeola bacchus, Egretta garzetta Hirundo rustica, Nycticorax nycticorax, Ardea cinerea, Dicrurus macrocercus, Lonchura punctulata. Centropus sinensis, Gallinula chloropus etc. in total 28 species’ risk grade was high. In all 35species formed the high-risk birds at the airport, accounted for 34.31% of total.Among the high-risk birds,the resident occupied 71.43%.(6)Based on the analysis of bird risk grade, activity rhythm, avian diversity in different habitats, some specific countermeasures and pieces of advices on birdstrike prevention work had been proposed.
