From July 2006 to August 2007, we studied 8 avian community of 3 sample plots in Baotou Civilian Airport. A total of 153 species belonging to 16 orders and 39 families were recorded. We analyzed the composition of avian community and its community structure from different habitats of each season in this Airport. The results showed that the stenotopic bird species played crucial roles in all avian community, 130 species are stenotopic bird species accounted for 85% of all birds. The diversity index and evenness index represented a obviously positive correlation, as well as diversity index and degree of dominance represented a obviously negative correlation, then we can conclude that the bird community structure of Baotou airport is stable and even. By analyzing the relationship between avian community structure and their habitats, we come to the conclusion that food, water and shelter condition are three key factors in determining the change of bird diversity in this airport and its neighborhood, it is clear that the fundamental method to prevent birdstrike is reform of ecological environment to minimize the factors attracting birds, thus decreased avian diversity. 4 danger classes have been graded based on the important value of the species, combining the factors of density and the group size, flight height and whether to cross the runway and so on, the results showed that the 10 bird species are the most hazard to flight security ; the 31 bird species are the hazard and the 47 species are the less hazardous species to flight security. At last some effective preventive measures for birdstrike have been proposed to this Airport.
