As an important public basic courses in higher vocational colleges, Higher mathematicsis a kind of scientific language which many subjects use collectively, it has characteristics ofbeing universal,basic and instrumental in different curriculum systems of different majors inhigher vocational colleges, it is set for the students majoring science&engineering,andmanagement as well, which plays an important role in students’ further study of professionalcourses and in their sustainable development.Higher vocational education is a kind of China’s higher education. Higher vocationalcolleges play important roles in training high-quality skilled talents for the development ofregional economic. With the deepening of the connotation construction of higher vocationalcolleges, how to serve for the profession is becoming particularly important for highermathematics. Higher mathematics teaching nowadays has a clear disconnection withprofessional curriculums because of the influence of such factors as students, teachers,teaching materials,course orientation, the evaluation system and teaching methods.Therefore, we should deepen the teaching reform of mathematics in higher vocationalcolleges, keeping “Advanced Mathematics serving for professions” firmly in mind, holdingprinciple of “Essential and Enough”, actively push forward the curriculum’s construction ofmathematics.It will have important significance not on improving students’ comprehensivequality and training their innovation, analysis and problem solving ability, but on improvingthe teaching quality in vocational education.Taking Xian Yang Vocational and Technical College as an example, on the basis ofintensive investigation, this paper analyses the current status of mathematics’ learning inhigher vocational students and teaching problems in higher mathematics curriculum invocational colleges. The study combines higher mathematics teaching reform and vocationalcolleges’ training target together, explains the principles and ideas of the teaching reformbased on “mathematics serving for professions”. Especially through the application examplesbased on “serving for professions” in various majors, this essay points out that activelycarrying out the "mathematical modeling" activities in higher vocational colleges is the only way to deepen educational and teaching reform of higher mathematics in higher vocationalcolleges. Finally, from the adjustment about teaching outline, teaching materials’ reform,teaching system’ optimization, the innovation of teaching model, curriculum evaluationsystem’ reconstruction and the teaching methods and means’ reform in many aspects, thisessay puts forward countermeasures and suggestions on the teaching reform based on“mathematics serving for professions”, provides the reference for the study of highermathematics in higher vocational colleges serving for professions.The research innovation points in the essay are: in order to strengthen mathematics’serving for professions, it is important to carry out mathematical modeling practice actively inhigher vocational colleges and put the mathematical modeling into higher mathematicsteaching, actively carrying out case-teaching methods in higher mathematics teaching at thesame time.
