With the development of science and technology and the social progress, Video real-time communication has become the one of the most intuitive way to communicate with others at any time and any place. This put forward higher requirements for real-time video acquisition. SOPC (System On Programmable Chip), MicroBlaze processor and some corresponding IP cores introduced by Xilinx, improve the capabilities of the high-speed data processing of FPGA, and further satisfy the needs of the video acquisition with high reliability and high-speed. Especially, the programmable logic technology and the modular design accelerate the process of system design.This paper first introduces the development status and the newest design ideas of the real-time video acquisition. By deeply research, the framework of this paper has been established. According to the standard of the real-time video signals and the expected performances of the system, the FPGA-based design of the real-time video processing and remote transmission system has been proposed and achieved on the Xilinx development platform to replace the traditional "DSP + ASIC" framework.Second, This paper details the system scheme and analyzes the system memory requirement; With the advantages of SOPC based on MicroBlaze processor, the hardware and software platform has been structured on a single FPGA; The function modules and the interfaces of the system have been realized modularized.Then, a detailed description of the video acquisition, the video output, the video cache, the video transmission and the video permanently store is given in this paper, including the design of the hardware circuits and the drivers, especially the realizations of the IIC controller, MPMC controller, MAC controller and video I/O drivers on EDK platform, and the tests of them with the data from serial port or the waveforms captured by Chipscope logic analyzer.The design of this system well makes use of MicroBlaze processor and the IP core provided by SOPC Builder, and also simplifies the hardware design. So that we can focus on the system achievement and the algorithm design, which shortens the development cycle and improves the design efficiency. The programmable features and the modular design of FPGA make the system circuit design and its algorithm have good portability and reconfigurability. It is helpful to the system expansion and upgrade, and also can enhance the flexibility and integrity of the system. This system has low development costs, high integration, and strong reconfigurability.
